Summer Program

OUR SUMMER PROGRAM

A Summer of Learning Fun!
June 29-July 31, 2009

At Crossroads, we offer a comprehensive academic and recreational program for children entering Kindergarten through sixth grade that will help build your child's academic skills and boost your child's self- confidence!

Our five-week program gives parents the flexibility to choose among academic programs offered during the morning session or to build a full-day program of academics and recreation.  Students work in small groups with experienced educational professionals who will individualize your child's instruction to meet his or her learning needs.

Plan Your Child's Summer Program!

Reading/Language Arts (Daily from 8:20 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.)

Students at all age levels learn to strengthen reading and writing skills. Pre-readers will develop reading readiness skills using a variety of multisensory learning experiences. Writing in shaving cream or sand trays is just one way teachers make new concepts like letter and number identification easier to process and remember.

Young readers will build word decoding and vocabulary skills and use literature to strengthen reading fluency and comprehension.

Older students will enjoy reading from award-winning literature to strengthen inferencing, prediction, and comprehension skills.

All students will review the writing process from pre-writing through publication. Younger writers will explore descriptive writing through poetry, stories, and narratives. More experienced writers will be encouraged to develop their critical thinking skills to construct interesting, well-structured stories.

Mathematics
(Daily from 10:15 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.)

Manipulatives and real-life situations are used at all ages to help students develop a thorough understanding of the process and concepts of mathematics.

Skill areas include problem solving, reasoning, number sense and numeration, estimation, math facts, computation, geometry, fractions, measurement, patterns, time and money.

Students learn a variety of problem solving strategies to help them become flexible thinkers.

Speech/Language Instruction
(30 minute sessions)

Crossroads offers one-on-one speech-language instruction with a speech/language therapist. Enrollment is limited.

Build Kindergarten Readiness Skills

You can help your child prepare for the new challenges of Kindergarten. The day is filled with "hands on" learning activities to make learning fun. Students will strengthen pre-reading skills, word retrieval strategies, listening comprehension and math skills.
