Introduction
The Crossroads School is a small, non-profit coeducational school based program for children aged 5 to 15 whose learning profiles indicate average or above academic potential, but who process language differently and as a result have difficulty in conventional schools.
The curriculum at Crossroads is representative of traditional academic programs. The focus of the program is to develop the important academic skills of reading, writing and math while also enhancing a student's executive functions, such as planning, prioritizing and problem solving. The programs also reinforce the skills of analytical and critical thinking. This is accomplished by employing an individualized, multi-sensory approach to teaching and through the innovative Speaking and Listening Program.
Our goals are:
- To provide each student with genuine understanding of his or her own particular learning profile so that he or she may become a confident, self-advocating learner
- To provide a strong academic foundation
- To refer each student to a new school environment at the appropriate time
- To help educate parents, teachers, and the larger community about learning differences and how best to work with and educate children with such differences
